A library is in all respects an integral and necessary part of any institution of learning. As said by Henry Ward Beecher, “A library is not a luxury but one of the necessities of life.” The utility of a library cannot be limited to the storage of books, magazines, papers etc., but, it is a platform amongst students and teachers where knowledge can be shared as well as gained. A well equipped and maintained library is an asset to any institution and it also helps in fulfilling the gaps left out at times in classroom teaching through the vast knowledge that it has in the form of books assimilated.
To make sure that we, at Swami Parmanand group of Colleges, do not lack out in making available such an important and integral facility to the students, have come up with individual libraries for all the institutes that we are running. Further, to make sure that the students have an easy access to what they are looking for, all the libraries have been made fully computerised and their holdings can be searched on the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue).
The libraries, all together, have approximately a collection of 25000 books in stock by reputed authors in Engineering Sciences, Applied Sciences, General books for personality developement and General Knowledge etc. In addition to this, we have also subscribed to a number of newspapers, magazines and periodicals. The librarians have been given the responsibility to provide the students as well as teachers with anything not available with the library as soon as possible.
To elaborate a little, the libraries subscribe to 50 periodicals published by Foreign and Indian publishers in specialised subjects and general knowledge to keep the students abreast with the latest development in their field of studies and current affairs. In addition to this, 11 English and vernacular dailies are also on the subscription list of the libraries. In the thoughtfully furnished spacious reading halls of the libraries, 300 students can be comfortably accommodated in each of the library. The libraries have also subscribed to 2226 Engineering journals, 1161 International/National full text journals & to 1172 peer reviewed journals, newsletters, reports etc. These can also be accessed online on the terminals provided within the libraries. In addition to this, 410 CD/DVD’s of various engineering subjects and allied fields of study are also available.
